id help : what is this mushroom?

found a bunch of the throughout the trail i hunt in. they grow on the ground by what i think were maple. it was during the fall and they had a white sporeprint and smelled really good, they were also very thick and when cut bruised a very light tannish color. there were tons of them and i recall a old viet lady telling my dad that they were edible. any info would be appreciated, like i said, they grow everywhere so if they're edible id really like to know for my fture fall hunts. thx alot

I don't agree that they smell ok, but some people don't mind it. Its not as bad as Leucupaxillus albissmus, which can look really similar and is also unlikely to be toxic.
Vietnamese mushroom hunters will often eat tons of mushrooms that most people consider inedible. Its almost like they have secret books that say which mushrooms are edible, or maybe they pass on the information to other Vietnamese people by word of mouth. You will see some crazy shit in there if you check their baskets.
It wont kill you, at worst I would watch out for muscarine in Clitocybe. If you eat a little bit the first time and gradually increase the dose you could do it kind of safely since Clitocybe is not known for cumulative liver toxins.
