(and yes i know the mycellum has been disconnected, thankfully there were others that i didnt take which are still good)

O forgot, Im down in New Zealand if that helps identify it

    Psilocybe subaeruginosa
Take a spore print, it should be purple/brown.

how would these rank in strength compared to say gold tops or something? anything specific to this type in growing or trips? and all the ones that have been broken have gone blue, also ate part of a cap and got a lil buzz, probably placebo effect tho

Those would be well worth saving ..1 gram dry or 10 wet should equal at least 3 grams dry
of Cubensis..I guess it's Autumn down there now ..What have your temps been like..?

Yeah subs are well potent. Ive found schools are sweet hunting grounds with all there mulch bed gardens. Make sure you go during weekends though or you might get pinned for being some dodgy pedo hanging around in the bushes.

    Mycobrain,

    P. cubensis do not grow in New Zealand whatsoever. Liberty caps and a few other Psilocybe species and the newly discovered pouch fungus do.

The ones posted in the pictures here are most likely Psilocybe subaeruginosa, a potent Australian species which at time resembles P. cyanescens,

Please, please don't do that until you are 100% sure it's safe.

For a beginner, it's a much more prudent path that encourages a longer life. Without even a pic of the gills or description of a spore print, we had folks telling you it "looks like" B+, and that is frankly not helpful.

IMO, we should not nibble on mushrooms we guess are active, and we should not speculate out loud about a mushroom's identity for other people who ask when we don't know for certain what we're talking about.

Mjshroomer knows what he's talking about, and I think it's important to note that he still said they are "most likely" P. subaeruginosa. Before you go eating some, you need "most likely" to become "certain," and that's really hard to do over the internet, plus consider you may be trusting your life to the advice of someone randomly speculating about what it could be who may be less experienced that you are!

I love the wild mushroom forum.
    Nice find, really!
Take prints! and hope the patch is prolific often

    Edit:
+1 TV, there are old shroomers and bold shroomers - but not old bold shroomers
(but not really, because we have plenty of crazy old farts here )

If it has a purplish brown spore print and bruises blue it is very likely an active Psilocybe mushroom.

There are no poisonous mushrooms that fit the above description.

Ultimately, its up to you to use your own head..
You did check the print before you ate it right?

    Enjoy your trip!

That is dang cool!! allways gets the blood pumpin to finds a silly on your own. Turn into a monster if youre not carefull.

I agree with the wait thing when it come to wild mushrooms. When I was a kid I ate a few wishfull thinking and got sick a few times. Lucky I didnt die. Since then I have a much different approach.

For example the first time I found a Morel (which are incredibly easy to identify) all I did was take it home and stare at it and disect it. you know, smell it, cut it in half, dry it and throw it away. Then I would go online, read books and comb over all the pictures i could. The next time I found them I did the same thing until finally I was confident 100% and could find them and Id em. Then it was butter, garlic, lime juice and the frying pan baby!!

I still have that same approach with new species.

Anyway, in this case you survived and have a good find. You really ought to let one mature then get a pic and a spore print. Not easy to Identify a little mushie like that.

Take care and good luck Brotha
