No.... not all mushrooms that blue are active or eatable for that matter. Most are but not all and I wouldn't suggest you try it without getting a proper ID You can upload a pic by clicking on the paperclip icon above the text box.

When you hit the post reply (or start new thread) button..the text box will appear for you to write your mssg. above that box you will see the paper clip with a down arrow to the right of it. Theres more than one way to skin a cat though so you can do it any way that works

poisonous if you take a knife & cut it long ways from cap to stem you will see that the reaction on them starts blue & turns a black or gray I step on these for fun to watch them change color I could be wrong but thats poisonous also I could be wrong I dont have my field guide next to me but I believe that is a type of mushroom known as a poly pore mushroom it drops spores from little tubs you can see them under the cap |

![]() | I have never heard that befor If its blue its true? where did you learn that??? when I first started picking mushrooms I didnt know that other mushrooms besides cubes had that affect I started by looking for the tops of the caps the nipple & its color & then the ring on the stem should be purple or black like a turned off black light & I learned to spot bullets or pins by them being around open caps also I found that if its not in dung it may not be active (also befor I knew about wood loving mushrooms) dung is the key for finding most active mushrooms I dont try to look for wood lovers because I dont know about them & just seeing pics doent cut it plus I am in FL & dont think we have active wood lovers here & if we did I wouldnt know how to find |

Here are some similar examples found a week ago. Not the same as yours, but in the same family I'm sure. I have video of how quickly this blues too, but I'm not sure If I can upload it, might be too big of a file size. The theory, if its blue its true is not a good one

I might have been responsible for typing that, between late-1999-2000ish; unless I heard it from somewhere else first I am not sure. It is, and also is not a safe method for describing psychoactive mushrooms found in Florida pasturelands. It does pose some risk if took literally now that I look back on it. Who knows, I was purportably eating a lot of mushrooms and blotter during that era. Of course there are plenty of exceptions in Florida. Bluing Boletes in Florida are difficult to identify with certainty and some of those can be poisonous, but, if you are mistaking a Bolete for a Cube or a Cope then you should spend a good amount of time researching the subject before consuming any of your finds yet. Green Gills (Chlorophyllum molybdites) has white to light-olive-green colored gills, and at maturity the gills are bluish/green; I can't remember if the Florida Cubensis hunting guide at shroomwizard's even mentioned green gills because I have not read the hunting guide there for maybe 7 years. I am certain it has a number of inaccuracies; I learned a whole lot more about the sunshine state mushrooms since then. The new Cubensis hunting guide for Floridians discusses all of this and clarifys 60+ pages of many peoples questions about the subject; alas we respectfully wait for his son to re-open his fathers website and possibly post a .pdf of the new guide. Lactarius indigo is a somewhat common choice edible in Florida, but does not grow from cow dung, so again if a person is mistaking that mushroom for a Cubensis or a Copelandia then they should not be consuming what they are collecting yet. I was likely pointing out "if it stains blue it is true" comparing similar mushroom species for Cubensis such as very-close Stropharia look-a-likes that are not active and do not stain blue, very close appearance to Cubensis but do not stain blue. I'd say read the whole guide, I was not typing about Boletes I was typing pages describing how to find Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms - not meant to be taken literally for every single mushroom on our planet but just a saying added to the basic description for how to identify a Psilocybe cubensis in Florida. The Shroom Wizard's website has many mushroom photos, every single one is the Psilocybe cubensis-type. All of the mushroom photographs in the hunting guide there are of Psilocybe cubensis from Florida, no other mushrooms involved there. Cubensis is king, and the guide was written in one night specifically meant to be hosted first at the Wizard site, and edited by the Wizard. The new guide (CHAPTER CUBENSIS) took me a decade of studying Florida mushrooms, and months to put together the text. The chapter about cubes pretty much exhausted me to write, so what I have for CHAPTER COPELANDIA has been shelfed for now. |
