My next-door neighbor is a descendant of pioneers of this area and knows a lot about the geography. He and I went mushrooming on Tuesday (day before yesterday) and got a lot of shrooms. We were in a remote, seldom visited area with a deep carpeting of moss and a heavy canopy of trees. It was on a steep slope above the lake. I love such areas, but it was pretty damn physical getting around. I don't make a big thing of it, but I have mobility problems, so I was leaning on my alpenstock heavily during this hunt. I managed to wear myself out pretty good and am just getting back to normal today. Now buddy doesn't really have any knowledge of the mushies himself - he just knows where they are, so he picked everything he came across and tossed it in the basket for me to sort out later - which I was doing for most of yesterday. I wound up with several trays of unknown mushrooms that I haven't been able to figure out: The first 2 pics are some maybe chantrelles. I've never actually seen one before, but I am pretty sure of my ID (Cantharellus subalbidus). I think #3 might be Xeromphalina campanella and #4 might be Cantharellus minor except the gills don't look quite right, #5 might be Armillaria tabescens. #6 & #9 are the same ones and #7 & #8 I found growing on deer poop.
