Are these Big Laughing Gyms?

Hey everybody. I just found these last night, and photographed them this morning.....Nothing art-sy.....Just for identification. Im pretty sure that they are. Spore print is rusty orange, ringed stalk, smooth fibery cap, and were found right on the edge of the woods.

If they are...they would be the first actives Iv ever found where I live!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for positive confirmations

If anybody has tried these or knows a little bit about them (dosage possibly?) Id totally appreciate it....I have to confirm these somewhat quickly before a deer gets 'em. Dont want to pick if they're not the right ones.

Get some pics of the gills. I would go ahead and pick/dry them, but make sure to get some good pics first.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think laughing gyms grow off of logs, so I'd guess no on those.

I'll try to get some more pics of the gills. Should be up soon. I figured that they might be growing off underground wood, as they are @ the edge of the woods.

yes those are dont know too much about them some are active some arent but they are bitter if you try to eat them I dont think there is any color reaction in the active one should have an orange like spore print

There has been some research on the Gyms that identify another hallucinogen other than psilocybin. I think that is why some "trip" after eating them although they may test negative for psilocybin. Apparently the effect can be enjoyable. The taste is very unpalatable i hear. If you bioassay it let us know how it effected you.
There is one report that a man "suffered" Viagra like effects for three days after consuming Gyms.

Thanks for all the info guys. Im pretty sure their Gyms too...all thats left is to try them. I guess I'll have to take into account a possible 3 day stiffy though

If and when I do "study" them, I'll totally post up a report.

Does anybody have any dosage ideas?

Don't eat any mushroom until you have positively identified it.

I think those are the active laughing gyms & yes they contain Psilocybin they do have a bitter taste look into them some they got the name laughing gym because of the unmotivated laughter you experience

I don't know if they are, but if they are and you eat them, I suggest having a lemon to suck on while you do it.

Compared to the bitterness of a Big Laughing Gym, the lemon will taste sweet.

I've only eaten them twice (IDd by someone else) and they tasted very, very, very bad.

They were fresh both times. Good experiences both times, just a hideously nasty taste that lingered in my mouth for quite a while.

They are kind of a more "stupid" high than psilos. Reminded me just a little of DXM or Ketamine - that all over warm body high kind of thing.

I remember it being a rather energetic and foolish kind of high. The first time, I was really pissed about the lingering flavor. It IS bad and it lasts and lasts. But I also remember saying at one point, "this is where the Big Laughing thing comes from..." because we were being so silly and stupid, just running around like idiots.

Both times I ate them were on overnight camping/hunting excursions. They are great for outside with a fire and a cold stream to jump in, I can say that for sure.

I ate as much as I was handed.

Way more than I wanted to chew up and swallow after I finished the first mouthfull...

*probably* in the 50gm-80gm wet range, but that is a TOTAL wild ass guess. Digital scales were really expensive 20 years ago.

Sure. same as cubiies im sure. Dont dry them in sunlight tho. Best to dry them in an open dish in a frost free fridge. They will get "cracker dry" in a few days.

That's the only thing that throws me Buckaroo....I took a little bite of a stem..and no ass taste. They completely measure up except for that one trait...I'm hoping i just got lucky..or maybe a just need to take a larger bite.

Think the test day will be Thurs.

dude I wouldn't be taking bites of them at all until one of our mycologists positively ID those mushrooms, would hate to hear you ending up in the hospital or worse yet the morgue.

No wonder you haven't got a positive ID yet, you put it in the wrong forum, all wild finds go into the wild mushroom field and forest forum. Not photo gallery and grow logs. Just a tip for the future, I moved this thread for ya to the appropriate forum.

Have you ever seen a Bugs Bunny cartoon where somebody ate Alum and their whole head shriveled up because of the bitterness?

That is how I remember Gyms tasting. Tongue shriveling bitterness.

I didn't realize there wasn't a positive ID in this thread.

Iv looked into these guys...and the only look-a-likes both have white spore prints. (and mine is an orange rust)

You have a Gym there no doubt. There is a look alike of the "Gymnopilus spectabilis"[laughing gym] It is the Gym. Ventricosus. Both have been mistaken for the eatible "honey mushroom". The "Ventricosus" has a much milder flavor than the "spectabilis" but it is considered active as well.
Good advise from the experts here about "bioassaying". The nibbling and spitting is ok tho. You prolly have the Ventricosus tho.

Thats a really awesome Find and I love how the cluster is just blooming right out of the log!

I would like to just say that guaranteed they are Laughing Gyms but I can not. Sure look like them, the spores seem to be right color from what you say.. but the taste?! It should be like a rusty penny with battery acid and lime juice on it. For real, they really do taste that stringent.

If they truely are Laughing Gyms, that little cluster should be a good little booster but not a hard fry. Hard to say though because who knows till ya try it. Probably the best bet would be to take a small portion (under an eighth), wait about an hour until potency is understood and dose accordingly.

About prep.. well, in my book eating dry or plain is not an option. Worse than devils bile (Cactus). Should be done in a honey tek or dry and make a tea that can be sweetened and gulped fast.

Anyway, sory for rambling on too much just figured you might be able to use some of it.

I have no wish to worship the porcelain god.

I feel 95% sure that these aro ok though...cant find any look-alikes that match the data iv collected on it, with the possible exceptions of maybe 2 other actives.

Whether brave or foolish and stupid....Im gonna give these guys a go.

I guess I'll try a little bit first.
