I think it might be a rooting collybia. Especially if the roots go down nearly as long as the stipe.

Kinda of looks like what grows around my house...
My dog seems to take a liking to them....
I think they might be Marasmius oreades, which are edible.
Smell like bitter almonds, have tough stalks?
They are what seem what grow around my yard, but haven't taken my chances though.
Nick-Named the Fairy Ring Mushroom, because they have a tendency to grow in archs or full circles(as do the ones in my yard). The are nick-named that because before knowledge of why they grew like that, people thought fairies or elf's danced in them under the moonlight.

I am in California.

Its an Inocybe.

Spore print will be tan.

Also check the odor, Inocybes usually smell weird.

Fiber heads are Inocybes but not all Inocybes are fiber heads. Most are poisonous but i did'nt know some are mildly active. Must have been some brave bioassayers .

Inocybe aeruginascens is a German/European species and I really doubt that you would find one in america.

They are not Marasmius oreades. Marasmius do not have orange/reddish colored caps.
Here are 3 images of the fairy ring mushroom. Saw a small fairy ring a few days ago in Ballard but it was icy cold so I did not get my camera out and crawl to the ground to photopgrah them although they were perfect in every way, shape and form.

I love Marasmius oreades one of my favorite edibles. Does anyone know if someone has reported these to cause gastronomical distress in North America? Here in Europe some people have reported getting a bit sick from them if not parboiling the mushrooms before preperation.

Yes and i think it is due more to the lawns they're picked from. People use fertilizer, pesticides and other toxic substances on their lawns to get them pristine and green. Mushrooms are what they eat. I have been slightly poisoned by eating too many store bought Agarigus bisporus [common button mushroom] because they are heavily sprayed with malathion.

Usually the marasmius oerades grow on older lawns thaan on newer lawns. Especially in older neighborhoods where they do not use fertilizers or new topsoils.

Good point havnt even thought about that! That would explain why parboiling solved the issue. Iam guessing the toxins were simply leached out.

Definitely not that species or any other psychoactive Inocybe species.

There are 700 Inocybe species, 6 contain psilocybin, four contain nothing, and 690 contain the toxin muscarine.

But your chances of finding a psychoactive Inocybe are much worse than those numbers would indicate because the active species are very rare and the toxic species are very common.

The most common psychoactive Inocybe species in the US is Inocybe corydalina.
